Mountain Gorillas in an Ancient Forest
A dense, steep forest in the south-west of Uganda and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It protects roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Visits are on foot, in small groups, with a permit.
Mountain Gorilla
Seen on guided treks with a permit. Group size and time with the gorillas are limited.
Chimpanzee & Other Primates
Several other primate species live in the forest.
Birdlife
Many species are found only in the Albertine Rift, the mountain region this forest sits in.
Steep, forested hills with deep valleys and heavy undergrowth. Treks can be muddy and physically demanding, and the weather changes quickly.
These are the drier months, so trails are easier. Treks go ahead in the wet season too.
