Nairobi National Park
Wilderness on the City's Doorstep
About seven kilometres from Nairobi's centre, open grassland runs to a skyline instead of a horizon. The park's southern boundary sits unfenced along the Mbagathi River, so wildlife still moves freely onto the wider Athi-Kapiti plains beyond it.

The Landscape
Ground That Shapes the Light
Open grass plain scattered with acacia bush, with highland dry forest and riverine forest along the park's permanent rivers. It's the only protected remnant of the wider Athi-Kapiti ecosystem, and the only park in the world that shares a boundary with a capital city.
Best Season
June to October, and January to February
Dry months bring wildlife closer to the park's remaining water and give the clearest views of the skyline.
